The Newtonmore Clubhouse

Wherever you find reviews of golf clubs, you’ll find that Newtonmore is up there with the best when it comes to praise for being welcoming, friendly, serving great food and offering excellent value for money.

Our clubhouse, with its scenic mountain backdrop, is the beating heart of Newtonmore Golf Club, and has been for many generations, going through several redevelopments and incarnations since it first opened back in 1904.

After it’s last extension the clubhouse was opened by Bob Charles, the first left-handed golfer to ever win The Open (in 1963). This is especially significant because Newtonmore is said to have the highest percentage of “leftie” members in the world – a quirk that is put down to the fact that the village is located in the heart of shinty country, the Highland team sport in which players learn to swing the shinty club both right and left handed from an early age.

The building provides a social and sporting sanctuary for local members, visiting golfers, their family and friends, and golf supporters.

Equipped with changing rooms, a bar lounge, restaurant, small PRO shop and the administration office, the clubhouse is an essential amenity for the players but is also a social hub enjoyed by golfers and the wider community.

Office Manager, Heather, is based in the clubhouse, ready, willing and able to help with all enquiries either in person or on the phone – from membership applications and restaurant bookings to golf club hire or sightseeing in the area. The office is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 2pm.

Newtonmore Golf Club Bar & Catering

There’s nothing more congenial than coming in from a round of golf to wet your whistle at the bar. The Newtonmore proverbial “19th hole” is well-stocked with all your favourite tipples from local real ales to a selection of spirits, a comprehensive wine list – and of course Highland whisky.

Food is served every day except Monday and Tuesday, when the bar and the kitchen are closed, and consists of some hearty, wholesome fare with specials on the day. You don’t have to be a member, or even a golfer, to enjoy a meal at Newtonmore Clubhouse, where prices are extremely reasonable.

The Club’s breakfast rolls are particularly popular with golfers before they hit the course.

Newtonmore Golf Week

While the Club holds several Open Competitions through the year it is renowned for its fun Golf Week, which has been held during the first week of August every year for nearly seven decades.

Golf Week competitions are open to members and visitors of all ages and abilities, and usually kicks off with a Stableford on the Saturday with players vying for cash prizes and the Mackay Trophy for the best lady or gentleman over 65.  The Sunday sees a strokeplay, then the week progresses with the likes of a 2-person scramble, 3-Ball Better Ball, Greensomes and Texas Scramble.

All prizes are sponsored by local businesses, and tee times for all the competitions can be booked online. The Club has trolleys, buggies and caddies available for visitors to hire – these can also be booked online or arranged through the office.
